Just what the Doctor ordered….
ITPSL, a leading provider of data management services, announce today that they are to provide consultancy services to the General Medical Council (GMC) in Manchester and London. The GMC has initiated a strategic applications project to implement a cohesive set of applications covering all its main business processes.
ITPSL will lead the data cleansing and migration elements of the project by defining a pervasive data migration strategy taking into account numerous data sources and providing a migration path across multiple project phases, whilst managing a team to execute the cleansing and migration of operational data from legacy applications to Siebel.
The GMC is currently implementing significant reforms across the organisation including:
• The implementation of revalidation, licensing and a new fees framework
• The implementation of revised Fitness to Practise procedures to focus on openness, consistency and accountability
The General Medical Council was established under the Medical Act of 1858 and posses strong and effective legal powers designed to maintain the standards the public have a right to expect of doctors.
The GMC do not exist to protect the medical profession - their interests are protected by others, the GMC's role is to protect patients.

In order to support these reforms, Siebel will be implemented along with an EDRM solution to:
• Improve the quality and accessibility of records and data
• Improve the availability and timeliness of operational and statistical information
• Facilitate information sharing both internally across directorates, and also with external organisations such as the NHS
ITPSL will play a hands-on role in the project providing support to the Project Management team in planning and executing data migration activities, whilst assessing the quality of legacy data and recommending approaches for merging and deduplicating data across multiple sources of legacy data.
Dame Janet Smith proposed in the Shipman Inquiry's fifth report: Safeguarding Patients: Lessons from the past – Proposals for the Future, that a new database should be created to store information about doctors including records of disciplinary action by employers, information held by the GMC and Criminal Records Bureau, and adverse findings by the Healthcare Commission or the Healthcare Ombudsman.
"ITPSL are particularly pleased to make such a significant contribution in the Healthcare sector and we look forward to supporting the GMC in their willingness to host the central database, recommended by the Shipman Inquiry" said Iain Wright, Director at ITPSL.
